Robert Piguet's history

Robert Piguet was born in Yverdon, Switzerland in 1901. After training as a banker, Piguet went to Paris in 1918, where he worked with REDFERN and POIRET. He founded his own salon in 1933. He hired or used designs by many famous designers, as well as using his own designs. Antonio Castillo worked from 1936 to 1944, Christian DIOR worked from 1938 to 1942, James GALANOS was designer from 1947 to 1948, and Marc BOHAN worked under Piguet in the 50's. Hubert GIVENCHY and Pierre BALMAIN were also Piguet designers.

He favoured dramatic gowns in a romantic style and created many costumes for the theatre, as well as well-cut suits and softly tailored dresses. His work was admired for its uncluttered yet flamboyant shapes, and silhouettes.

He retired in 1951 and died in 1953.
